Maintenance of a soy candle
First ignition of at least 2 hours
Make sure you have 2-3 hours available before your first lighting. We know it's very exciting to want to light your candle right away for the first time, but it's a crucial step since soybeans have a burning memory.
If on first lighting the wax does not melt to the diameter of its container, the candle will not burn properly for the rest of its life. A sort of tunnel will form and hours of combustion will then be lost.
Burn for a maximum of 4 hours
Experts agree that you shouldn't burn your candle for more than 4 hours. Beyond that, the wick begins to accumulate carbon, which then forms a kind of fungus and can make burning dangerous. The flame could become uncontrollable and the wick would remain glowing even when extinguished.
Also, soot and smoke are more likely to emerge after 4 hours of combustion.
Cut the wick between each use
After the candle is extinguished, allow the wick to harden and carefully trim to 1/4 inch or less. Do not let the wick pieces fall into the wax.
By shortening the wick of the candle, not only is the burn longer, but it is also more even. This therefore avoids the release of smoke or overheating of the container. So, before lighting your candle, make sure that the wick is well trimmed and without "mushroom".
You can cut it easily with a wick trimmer.
Keep the candle away from drafts
To ensure that your candle burns evenly, avoid placing it near a window or in a draught: these are the times when the flame blackens the container, causes smoke to develop and wax melts unevenly.
Also, if the flame is flickering when there is no wind, it is a sign that you should shorten the wick.
Screw the lid on the container between each use
If you don't light your candle regularly, cover it every time it is extinguished. This prevents dust from accumulating and altering the wax. This also prevents the scents from fading.
Discontinue use when only 1/2 inch of wax remains in the bottom of the container.
Cleaning & recycling
Once your candle is finished, ARAUMÉ is counting on you to recycle the container in the recycling bin if you want to get rid of it.
However, you can also give it a second life by cleaning it and transforming it into a pencil holder, a pocket tidy, a pot for cotton swabs or make-up remover pads, or even a small flowerpot or cactus. For the more ole ole personalities, our container makes a great small cocktail glass! ;)
WARNING
Our candles are made with natural soy wax. We use no additives, which means your candle may change color depending on exposure to light. Depending on the ambient temperature, it may also change in look or texture. This does not affect the performance of our product in any way.
Since soybeans are a living plant resource, they continue to expand, contract and change their current shape depending on a variety of conditions. It may also appear frosty. These "defects" are normal and are clear indications that you have purchased a 100% natural soy candle.
